Pastoral care of the sick
1. Retreats for the sick
Through its Department for the Sick and throughout each year, the Shrine of Fatima organizes retreats for the sick. Three of them are exclusively for persons with physical disabilities, two for boys and one for girls. The participation is free
2. Vacations for children and youth with physical disabilities
Every summer, the Department for the Sick also plans holidays for children and youth with physical disabilities whose families are the caregivers in their homes. Thus these vacations provide the family with a few days of rest. Each year is a different program, and it is announced in due course. The participation is free.
3. First Emergency Aid Unit
The First Emergency Aid Unit, located in the building of the Retreat House Our Lady of Sorrows, is a service that provides the pilgrims and visitors to the Shrine with general and immediate health care.
Nursing care is provided every day. A doctor is available on weekends throughout the year (Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning), every day in summer (from July 15 to September 15), and also on 12th and 13th from May to October.
Wheel chairs can be lent in the First Emergency Aid Unit, free of charge. The person responsible for the request has to fill a form of identification.
In here, there is also a room with changing table for children, elderly and disabled, as well as a room for breastfeeding.
