Cyclists Pilgrimage to Fatima
27.1.2008
Organized by the Cyclists Union of Leiria, cyclists from all over Continental Portugal pilgrimaged to Fatima on January 20, 2008, for the VI Annual Blessing of the Cyclist.
Mass was held in Parking Lot #2, at the Shrine of Fatima, and it was attended by the cyclists as well as by their family members.
Most Rev. Serafim Ferreira e Silva, Bishop Emeritus of Leiria-Fatima, presided over the celebration and greeted all present with words of appreciation for the sport, which allows for contact with nature as well as for moments of reflection and prayer.
“I pray that you don’t come across danger on the road and that you be cautious. I pray that you may contemplate nature, but also pray”, said the prelate, who asked still that everyone be “coherent and exemplary” in life as well as on the road.
Right at the end of the Mass of this pilgrimage, which the Bishop Emeritus of Leiria-Fatima called a moment of “commitment and promise”, the cyclists renewed their consecration to Our Lady of Fatima and the Bishop blessed the bikes and, above all, the people riding them, he emphasized. |
