Shrine of Fatima receives the 24th Mariological Marian International Congress
The meeting that gathers several specialists focus on the theme “The Fatima event a hundred years later. History, message and actuality”.
The 24th International Mariological Marian Congress will be held from the 6th to the 11th of September in Fatima and it will be presided by the Special Envoy of the Holy Father, Cardinal José Saraiva Martins, Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints.
Promoted by the Pontifical International Marian Academy in association with the Shrine of Fatima and mariological societies from several countries, the congress- that is held every four years- will have as a theme “The Fatima event a hundred years later. History, message and actuality”, as approved by Pope Francis.
The congress goal, in which Mariology specialists and scholars from different parts of the world, is eminently scientific.
During the congress, that integrates the Centennial of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima celebrations, will be presented and discussed the results of a rigorous, critic and updated study of the documentation inherent to the history of the marian event occurred in Fatima. On the other side, the participants will try to define the investigation lines for the study and deepening of the message of Fatima which, by its dense contents, represents a “prophecy” filled with hope for the Church, mankind and contemporary world.
This intense interpretation, confrontation and updating work, is conducted in the light of the reports presented by several specialists during general sessions and proposed contributes during group works, organized according the different linguistic spheres.
Due to the numerous institutes of consecrated life and ecclesial movements who are inspired in the message of Fatima and disseminate it all over the world, another characteristic feature of the Congress is precisely the participation of the representatives of these institutions such as the World Apostolate of Fatima.
This congress is the most important international moment of reflexion in the Mariology area, with specific thematic in the Fatima event.
In 1967, by the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Fatima events, the 5th edition of this Mariological Marian International Congress was held in Portugal, with initiatives in Lisbon and Fatima, under the theme “Primordiis Cultus Mariani - Patristic Mariology”.
