In the afternoon of Palm Sunday, March 28, the Shrine of Fatima offers to its pilgrims and visitors a high level cultural program, the music concert “Requiem in memory of Prince Henry”, at 15h00, in Most Holy Trinity Church. The work will be performed by the Symphony Orchestra of Frankfurt-Wiesbaden, together with choral group Schiersteiner Kantorei and soloists of international renown, all of them German. Maestro Martin Lutz conducts. The “Requiem in memory of Prince Henry” was composed by Portuguese Father António Ferreira dos Santos, Rector of Lapa Church (Porto). It was ordered by the National Committee of the Discoveries to conclude the jubilee year of the 600th anniversary of the birth of Prince Henry. The first world performance was held at Batalha Monastery in 1995, at the conclusion of the National Celebrations of Prince Henry. In the words of the Compositor himself, “The Requiem was conceived, in light of the faith, as a man’s journey, from the indefinition of the beginning of his existence, going through his life’s various trials – which can be explained by man’s sins, sins that generate shadows, frustrated hopes, suffering, confusion and despair – until, by the merits of Christ, he reaches communion and absorption in Him Who is the Father of the Prodigal Son: God – Love – the Absolute”. The concert will last about 70 minutes and admission is free. To access the religious program of Palm Sunday, please see: https://www.fatima.pt/news/holy-week |
