"Thus, we consecrate to You, Our Lady, You Who are the Mother of the Church, the Ministry of the new Pope; please fill his heart with the tenderness of God, which like no one else You Yourself experienced, so that he may embrace all men and women of our time with the love of Your Son Jesus Christ".

Archbishop Orani João Tempesta, of St. Sebastian of Rio de Janeiro, will preside over the International Pilgrimage commemorative of the 96th anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady at Fatima.

The theme of the pilgrimage is “To God nothing is impossible” (Lk 1, 37).

On May 13, during a celebration to which all of God’s people is invited, the pontificate of Pope Francis shall be consecrated to Our Lady of Fatima.

Let us remind you that, in reply to a request presented by the Pope to the Patriarch of Lisbon, Cardinal José Policarpo, asking that he consecrate the Pope’s pontificate to Our Lady of Fatima, the Portuguese Bishops decided that this consecration would be made on May 13, at the end of the Mass of the International Anniversary Pilgrimage, celebrated by Cardinal Policarpo on the Outdoor Altar of the Prayer Area.

In declarations to the Shrine of Fatima, Archbishop Tempesta spoke about his coming to Cova da Iria, saying that he was coming as a pilgrim and highlighting the devotion of the Brazilian People to Our Lady of Fatima.

On the timeliness of the Message of Fatima, Archbishop Tempesta said: “The invitation to pray and convert is always timely. Times and customs change, but, if there is something permanent in the human being, it is his need of and eternal longing for God. Today, in a world of so much technological progress and so many social changes, the voice echoing in Fatima continues reminding all of us, with the same strength and courage, that “it is necessary to pray more and more; it is necessary to convert every day”.

Archbishop Tempesta further revealed to us that he also intends to consecrate to Our Lady of Fatima, during this pilgrimage, the work of World Youth Days, which will be held at Rio de Janeiro on July 23 thru 28.
