Fatima Shrine’s Rector presented the program of the Centennial of the Apparitions at the IV International Workshop on Religious Tourism
The event takes place in the Pastoral Centre Paul VI, the whole day, and counts with more than 500 participants.
Father Carlos Cabecinhas, Rector of the Shrine of Fatima, presented the program of the Centennial of the Apparitions on the occasion of the IV International Workshop on Religious Tourism that takes place this morning in the Pastoral Centre Paul VI.
The rector of the Shrine declared that “the religious tourism is profoundly linked to the religious phenomenon of pilgrimages” and therefore and with the centennial of the apparitions approaching, there is “a unique opportunity to value the Fatima destination whether as a pilgrimages target point or as a touristic destination of major importance”.
“The importance of Fatima, in the context of our country and much beyond our borders, justifies the efforts we have made to prepare and organize a celebratory program for the Centennial of the Apparitions which could underline the impact of Fatima in the context of faith, of social dynamisms, of culture and of its meaning as a message of peace”, said the rector of the Shrine reiterating the idea that the aim of this program is to reach as many people as possible. To achieve this, all the events are open to the general public.
Father Carlos Cabecinhas has mentioned before the 500 participants of the event that the Shrine of Fatima had looked for “initiatives that could improve the welcome conditions of the pilgrims and that these initiatives could become part of the normal contributions of the Shrine to the pilgrims”.
Then the Vice-Rector of the Shrine, Father Vitor Coutinho, presented some initiatives scheduled in a program that aims at offering occasions to “celebrate, evoke, reflect, contemplate and pray”.
The IV International Workshop on Religious Tourism takes place the whole day and counts with the presence of 500 participants, including more than 100 international tour operators. This initiative is promoted by ACISO – Business Association Ourém-Fátima, in collaboration with the Municipality of Ourém and the support of Tourism of Portugal and Tourism of Central Portugal.
This event counts with the presence of national and international tour operators, travel agents and hotels managers, and business men on the tourism area, especially directed to Religious Tourism.
