23 april, 2014

The Sanctuary of Fatima rejoices and gives thanks to God for the canonization of John XXIII and John Paul II, next Sunday, the 27th April, at the Vatican. The act of proclaiming the holiness of these two Popes makes them more prominent to the eyes of today’s world, as examples and testimonies of the meaning of being a Christian.

On the day of the canonization, the Sanctuary of Fatima will present a festive visual mark, inviting pilgrims to associate themselves spiritually with this important event of the Universal Church.

The most solemn moment will happen with the Mass celebrated at 11:00 AM in the Precinct of Prayer, and then will be remembered the three pilgrimages of John Paul II to Fatima – namely, in 1982, 1991 and 2000. And at the same time the pilgrims will be asked to make a short prayer uttered in Fatima by John Paul II. At the Eucharistic celebration will preside the Vice Rector of the Sanctuary of Fatima, Father Emanuel Matos Silva.

On behalf of the Diocese of Leiria-Fatima and the Sanctuary of Fatima will be in Rome to participate in the solemn celebration of canonization: diocesan Bishop António Marto; Bishop emeritus Serafim Silva, and Father Carlos Cabecinhas, Rector of the Sanctuary.
