The Catholic Church celebrated, on Sunday May 20, Media World Day, instituted by Vatican Council II (Decree ‘Inter Mitifica’, 1963). “Silence and word: the way of evangelization” is the title of the message of Holy Father Benedict XVI. In it, the Pope entrusts to Our Lady the work of evangelization. From the message of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for the 46th World Communications Day: "Word and silence: learning to communicate is learning to listen and contemplate as well as speak. This is especially important for those engaged in the task of evangelization: both silence and word are essential elements, integral to the Church’s work of communication for the sake of a renewed proclamation of Christ in today’s world. To Mary, whose silence “listens to the Word and causes it to blossom” (Private Prayer at the Holy House, Loreto, 1 September 2007), I entrust all the work of evangelization which the Church undertakes through the means of social communication". On May 20, at the Shrine of Fatima, the offertory, in all official Masses, was in favor of the media organizations of the Church. Last year, this offertory raised €7,520.63 (seven thousand five hundred twenty euros and sixty-three cents). |
