Fatima Shrine launches the Photography Prize "Centenary of the Fatima Apparitions"

 As part of the centenary celebrations of the Apparitions, the Shrine of Fatima invites photography enthusiasts and amateurs to participate in the Photography Prize "Centenary of the Fatima Apparitions". The initiative, aimed at Portuguese and foreign photographers, takes into account the close relationship of photography with Fatima, yesterday as today, and the importance of this art to contemporary culture.

"The dramatic refugee crisis demands concrete solutions" - Rector of the Fatima Shrine

Carlos Cabecinhas, said today "the dramatic refugee crisis to which Europe must respond cannot leave us indifferent and demands concrete solutions"; and he also said further "the Sanctuary will provide a home for stable reception of refugees." The Rector announced that, in addition to this initiative, "the sanctuary will also provide a building, normally used to house pilgrims, to welcome transitorily, those refugees awaiting for permanent housing."

His Excellency Wilmar Santin, bishop of Itaituba, presides at the International Pilgrimage of September

The Anniversary International Pilgrimage on September 12 and 13 will be presided over by his Excellency Wilmar Santin, bishop of Itaituba, Brazil. At the Press Room of the Sanctuary, he said this was his first visit as a bishop, in spite of having already visited Fatima several times, "all of them a beautiful experience of faith."

Postponed the visit of the Pilgrim Image to Syria

With the date of August 27, 2015, the Shrine of Fatima received a communication from His Beatitude Patriarch Gregorios III of Damascus, Syria, informing that, because the conditions in Damascus were aggravated, he does not consider opportune and convenient the visit of the Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Fatima to that diocese. So he asks for delaying the visit to a later and more favorable date.  As the Shrine of Fatima has announced to the media, on August 12, that this visit of the Pilgrim Image to Damascus was scheduled for 7 to 9 September, 2015, makes now known its postponement. Fatima Shrine engages Catholic schools in the celebration of the Apparitons Centennial

A new school year is coming in Portugal, for next September. In another initiative proposed by the Sanctuary of Fatima, and carried out within the context of the official program of the Apparitions Centenary, the Portuguese Catholic schools are invited to take part in a multidisciplinary competition, that will reach the highest point with a cultural session at the III National Pilgrimage to Fatima of the Catholic schools, on October 21, 2016.

His Excellency, Manuel Linda, Bishop of the Armed Forces and Security of Portugal, presides in Fatima at the international pilgrimage of 12 and 13, August, which has as its central theme this motto: "We form one body" (Ephesians 4: 4), and in which is also integrated the migrant annual pilgrimage to Fatima.

In the year the Sanctuary of Fatima reflects, in a special way, on the fourth Marian apparition in the Cova da Iria, which, according to the testimony of the seers, occurred in August 1917, the exhibition "In this valley of tears", adopting as maxim the words of the hymn ‘Hail Holy Queen’ [Salve Regina], presents to visitors a reflection on the political and ideological context that marked the country and the world, during the second decade of the 20th century.

Arvo Pärt composes music dedicated to the Little Shepherds of Fatima

Arvo Pärt, famous and important composer in the field of contemporary music, created a musical piece dedicated to the Little Shepherds of Fatima, whose manuscript will be published in the October issue of Fatima XXI - Cultural Journal of the Sanctuary of Fatima. Fr. Carlos Cabecinhas announced that the piece will be presented in a concert on February 20, 2015, in Lisbon Cathedral.

12th Worldwide Eucharistic Adoration - October 3rd, Sanctuary hosts prayer service encouraged by the International World Apostolate of Fatima

In the afternoon of October 3rd, Friday, Fatima´s Shrine will be partner of Worldwide Children and Youth Holy Hour, "Children of the Eucharist", promoted by the International World Apostolate of Fatima. The event will be broadcasted (deferred) from Fatima to over 140 countries around the world via the American Catholic television station EWTN. Prayer for the Pope, for the families and for the world gathers the main intentions of this action.

His Excellency Antonio Francisco dos Santos, bishop of the Diocese of Oporto, presides in Fatima at the international pilgrimage on the 12th and 13th August. "Have mercy upon me, for I have sinned" (Ps 51) is the theme and subject of this pilgrimage, which usually is characterized by the presence of a large number of pilgrims that integrate the Pilgrimage of Migrants and Refugees to the Shrine of Fatima. Such a journey is an organization of the Portuguese Catholic Migration Work (OCPM), in the context of the 42 National Migration Week (August 10 through 17, 2014).

«Secret and Revelation» now also with virtual tours

Installed and initiated in the Sanctuary of Fatima, in late November 2013, and open to the public until October 31, 2014, the exhibition Secret and Revelation, which displays for the first time the manuscript of the Third Part of the Secret of Fatima, got a new expression since the 13th July, and it is now possible to visit it online.
